Imaginal Nurturing
Our relationships with the adults that cared for us early on significantly impact who we become as adults. Imaginal Nurturing, an approach developed by psychotherapist April Steele, addresses the things that were lacking in these relationships to increase a person’s ability to care for themselves, develop more closeness with others, and feel more secure about who they are as a person. In therapy, this looks like developing a stronger connection to younger parts of ourselves.
Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
A structured therapy designed to reduce the impact of specific disturbing memories from the past. Sometimes the part of you that experienced the difficult event(s) in the past is not clear that it is over. When this part gets a reminder of this in the present, a person can respond as if in the past with the same emotions, body sensations, and thoughts/beliefs. EMDR helps to allow your adult self handle a situation in the present with all of the coping skills and learning gained since that earlier time. Read more about EMDR here and here.
